From Loved Ones & Friends

Letter from Katie Lenox

Mr. and Mrs. Svitek & Michael,

Kate was so much to so many people. She and I certainly had our share of fights as freshmen year roommates, but luckily we knew how to accept apologies too and could be friends again junior and senior year. I wish there was something I could say to make you feel even a little better. She and you are in my thoughts and prayers. If there is ever anything that I can do, please let me know.

Love,

Katie Lenox

Kate

Her thick blue bracelet with bugs inside,
dangling from her wrist as she typed,
her mountain pack sitting beside her in Bailey Howe,
working on another natural resources assignment.

A closet packed with J Crew sweaters, and still,
excitement at another catalogue’s arrival
or an early morning trip to the clearance sale.

Wheat crust pizza from Leonardo’s delivered to the dorm
after a late night studying…or hanging out.

A distinct laugh, one that I cannot describe,
just thinking about it makes me smile.
An even more distinct dance.

Trips to Scribbles for stationary,
fresh flowers and bright picture frames,
Blarney Stone, RJ’s, What Ales You, Red Square,
riding a bike right up to my porch for a party,
generous, a good listener, compassionate, adventurous, intelligent, fun
fleece jackets and wind shorts, jeans and silver jewelry, wild curly hair
held back with sunglasses, and a smile.
